The MULTI-ReUse project, funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), focused on modular treatment and monitoring in wastewater reuse. The research took place in a pilot plant in Lower Saxony located at the municipal wastewater treatment facility of Nordenham. In this coastal region affected by water scarcity, conventionally treated wastewater was further processed under real-world conditions using a modular treatment system in order to enable its use as process water in an industrial facility.
Many results were developed and researched, publications and project materials were made available. Our most important expected results was the (further-) development of procedures for water reuse, new methods for monitoring the water quality, an evaluation tool and an export strategy.
Beyond this, MULTI-ReUse also successfully examined additional reuse options of global relevance, including agricultural irrigation, urban applications, and groundwater recharge.
