EU proposal about minimum requirements for water reuse
The EU has released a proposal about the reuse of local and treated waste water to ensure minimum requirements and their surveillance on an EU level. Aim of the proposal is to ensure that “the treated water is guaranteed to be safe for humans, animals and the environment and that water shortage is met in an EU-wide coordinated manner. […]
Based on the expected changes caused by climate change, the general goal is to contribute to the mitigation of the water shortage problem in the EU, especially through water reuse mainly for agricultural purposes, whenever this is cost-efficient and the public health and the safety of the environment is guaranteed.” (Author’s note: The quote is roughly translated from the German proposal).
