Within the MULTI-ReUse project the waterboard of Oldenburg (Oldenburgisch-Ostfriesische Wasserverband, OOWV) at the location of the waste water treatment plant Nordenham in North Germany works together with the research partners IWW Water Centre, the Biofilm Centre of the University Duisburg-Essen (UDE) and the supplying companies inge GmbH, IAB Ionenaustauscher GmbH Bitterfeld – a 100% LANXESS- subsidiary company – and De.EnCon GmbH.
The interface to the industrial and agricultural sector is covered by the partners DECHEMA (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology) and the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF). ISOE – Institute for Social-Ecological Research mainly focuses on the knowledge transfer of the results.
DECHEMA Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V., Frankfurt am Main
DECHEMA is the expert network for chemical engineering and biotechnology in Germany. As a non-profit professional society we represent these fields in science, industry, politics and the general public. DECHEMA promotes scientific and technical exchange among experts from different disciplines, organisations and generations. Within Multi-ReUse, DECHEMA leads the working group evaluating users’ requirements and target markets for recycled waste water. In addition, DECHEMA acts as contact and networking partner for the industrial sector.
De.EnCon GmbH, Oldenburg
De.EnCon GmbH designs and builds tailor-made treatment plants for water recycling, wastewater, process water and drinking water treatment. Applications using membranes, such as Ultrafiltration, Nanofiltration or Reverse Osmosis, are part of De.EnCon’s portfolio as well. The engineers and technicians at De.EnCon work on full scale plants for industrial customers and municipalities as well as on small scale plants, such as pilot scale units or containerized unit,s which are used globally by a variety of customers. As part of the Multi ReUse project De.EnCon is carrying out the design and construction of the containerized pilot plant, which includes the detailed engineering, construction of machinery and electrical cabinet as well as PLC-programming, FAT, shipment and commissioning onsite.
IAB Ionenaustauscher GmbH Bitterfeld / LANXESS Deutschland GmbH, Köln
IAB Ionenaustauscher GmbH is part of the LANXESS Liquid Purification Technologies (LPT) business unit. At its site in Bitterfeld, the company produces Lewatit ion exchange resins and Lewabrane reverse osmosis (RO) membrane elements for water treatment. As part of the Multi ReUse project, IAB is developing reverse osmosis membranes that reliably remove micropollutants from water while keeping the energy requirement to a minimum.

BASF’s Ultrafiltration Membrane Business
inge GmbH based in Greifenberg, Germany, is a world leading provider of ultrafiltration technology used in the treatment of drinking water, process water, sea water and waste water. Its range of products includes highly-efficient ultrafiltration modules and cost-effective, space-saving rack designs as the core components of water treatment plants. All the company’s products are based on the in-house development of its patented Multibore® membrane technology. The extremely small-pore filters of the Multibore® membrane reliably intercept not only particles, but also microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses, thereby providing a dependable source of clean water. In August 2011, inge® became part of BASF, the world’s leading chemical company.
ISOE Institut für sozial-ökologische Forschung GmbH, Frankfurt
ISOE – Institute for Social-Ecological Research is one of the leading non-university institutes for sustainability research. The institute develops scientific bases for decision-making as well as future-orientated concepts for policy makers, civil society and economy on a regional, national, and international level. With our research work we are focusing on the subject areas ‘water’, ‘energy’, ‘climate change’, ‘mobility’, ‘urban spaces’, ‘biodiversity’ and social-ecological systems. In the research project MULTI-ReUse ISOE is developing an international market analysis for service water in the domestic field and for garden maintenance as well as bases for a multi-criteria evaluation. Moreover, ISOE is designing an export strategy with which the modular system and its innovations developed in connection with MULTI-ReUse can be marketed in other countries. Another working priority of ISOE is the transfer of project results into practice.
IWW Zentrum Wasser, Mülheim an der Ruhr
IWW Water Centre is one of the leading water research institutes in Germany and a prominent member of the international research community. In its research branch, IWW is a private, not-for-profit company affiliated with the University of Duisburg-Essen. Founded in 1986, IWW presently employs more than 100 full-time employees at three locations with the headquarter in Mülheim an der Ruhr (Germany). The 20 shareholders of IWW are mainly from the water-supply and wastewater industry. Main fields of activity are water resources management, water technology, water networks, water quality analysis, applied microbiology, water economics and management.
Leibniz-Zentrum für Agrarlandschaftsforschung e.V. (ZALF), Müncheberg
The Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e.V. is a research institution and a memeber of the Leibniz Association. ZALF explores ecosystems in agricultural landscapes and the development of ecologically and economically viable land use systems. The main task in Multi-ReUse is the preparation of a list of requirements for quality criteria of modularly treated wastewater for reuse in agricultural irrigation in the national, EU and international context. Furthermore, a market analysis for the identification of selected international target markets for agricultural water reuse is conducted. The results of the market analysis are adapted for defined international target regions, and a concrete export strategy for agricultural wastewater reuse is formulated. Different variants of agricultural water reuse are assessed with regard to their sustainability.
OOWV Oldenburgisch-Ostfriesischer Wasserverband, Brake
As regional water association with municipal members The Water Association of Oldenburg and Ostfriesland (OOWV) is responsible for organizing water supply and sewage services mainly in the area between the rivers Weser and Ems. As customer-oriented, efficient and competent service supply company the OOWV is firmly anchored in the region and ensures the responsible supply with drinking water as well as the environmental friendly sewage disposal for fair prices and with a high quality awareness. According to its statute the OOWV is working without the intention of making a profit.
Universität Duisburg-Essen, Lehrstuhl Biofilm Centre, Essen
The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is located in the European region with the highest density of institutions of higher learning. Created in 2003 by the merger of the universities of Duisburg and Essen, the UDE is the youngest university in North Rhine-Westphalia and one of the ten largest universities in Germany with over 42.000 students. At the department of aquatic microbiology the research focusses on the basics of biological degradation of environmental contaminants. In detail, the isolation of microorganisms, the study of microbial metabolism, and the development of technologies for the remediation of contaminants belong to our major interests and activities. In addition, we establish new methods to monitor and quantify microbial degradation processes

The city of Nordenham
Nordenham combines high quality of life with an attractive business location and is easily reached from Bremerhaven, Bremen and Oldenburg.
The unique feature of Nordenham is diversity.
