Usually treated wastewater is being fed into the rivers but what if you could reuse it instead?
That is the focus of the research project MULTI-ReUse funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), over the course of the next three years. With the application of new procedures this so called ‘service water’ wouldn’t necessarily reach the quality of drinking water but it could be reused for a couple of other purposes, such as for the industrial sector, for agricultural purposes or groundwater recharge. It also could contribute to the saving of drinking water and the preservation of groundwater levels.
Nine project partners develop new technologies and methodologies for the reuse of treated wastewater, which are then being tested in a pilot plant in the North of Germany. Reliable procedures for the quality control of the water, an evaluation tool and concepts to market the results of the project also will be developed.
On 17.-18.04.2018 the status workshop from WavE takes place in Frankfurt, Germany. The funding measure WavE is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF) within the focal topic “Sustainable Water Management” as part of the framework programme “Research on Sustainable Development” and the research agenda on Green Economy.
In September the different partners of the MULTI-ReUse project met in Brake in Lower Saxony to discuss the progress of the project. The single work packages introduced their previous results, controversial points were discussed and the next working steps were planned.
During a broadcast about IWW Water Centre, the German research project MULTI-ReUse was introduced by a local TV station in Germany. The broadcast is in German and unfortunately there has been a small mistake. The project hasn’t been funded by

In September, the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) funded research project “MULTI-ReUse: Modular treatment and monitoring for wastewater reuse” has started. Over the course of the next three years, the project will research the possibilities to reuse treated water. During the kickoff meeting in October
